Japanese MVNO JCI to Procure ZTE's WCDMA Phones

Japanese JCI (Japan Communications Incorporation), which signed an agreement with NTT DoCoMo in June 2008 to provide MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) service leveraging NTT DoCoMo's 3G network capacity, recently announced that it will purchase its first WCDMA (Wide Code Division Multiple Access) mobile phone from ZTE of China, Nikkei Electronics reported. JCI plans to start its MVNO service using the WCDMA phones procured from ZTE. The WCDMA phones are projected to target customers in both the enterprise and private sectors.

JCI is also expected to purchase 3G phones from other international mobile phone makers in a bid to diversify its product lines and offer customers phones at considerably reduced costs. Other than mobile phones, JCI also plans to acquire new terminals such as e-book readers and Smartphones from international makers, according to the same source.
